Representatives from many disciplines, including law enforcement, child protection, prosecution, mental health, medical and victim advocacy, child advocacy, work together to conduct interviews and make team decisions about investigation, treatment, management, and prosecution of child abuse cases.
A Child's Voice helps these children in a number of ways. We try to put the child at ease by providing a non-threatening, neutral, child-friendly environment in which to gather factual information. To protect the children and encourage disclosure, our center only works with non-offending caregivers. We have specially trained professionals who conduct forensic interviews of the children who have made allegations of abuse. Interviews are videotaped using state of the art recording equipment to avoid multiple interviews, reduce the trauma of disclosure, and preserve statements for court purposes.
The interview of the child will then be relayed to law enforcement and DFCS and also make sure that the child's mental health is taken care of.
